I had this book preordered for awhile because I loved the book cover. I had no idea how much I would love every page in this book. The paper is thick. The pages are easy to tear out.

Absolutely stunning book. I am going to buy a second copy. There is a flip through on youtube. I bought this sight unseen, do to Grazia'sprevious book. One sided on nice toothed medium paper. I tried a small area with alcohol markers and there was bleeding. I used a Fine Tec,watercolor with no bleeding, and slight buckling. Anything else will work well.

My goodness, this coloring book is just perfection! I don't mean just the designs but the paper! It is just amazing to be able to use markers and work on cardstock paper. I definitely prefer to pay more for a coloring book in high quality paper.I am not sharing pictures because if you go to Youtube you will find a couple of videos with a flip through of the book. Worth every penny. Phoenix Amulet Publishing definitely knows what they are doing.

This book is fantastic! 40 single sided greyscale drawings on thick paper. I use colored pencil and I would suggest using a blending medium like odorless mineral spirits as the paper is quite toothy. Burnishing works as well (as I did on the flower petals in the picture) but does take some work. If you’re looking for a lovely greyscale book of women’s portraits this is a really great one! Picture attached work in progress colored with Prismacolor premieres and blended with OMS.

One of the best coloring Art book currently on the market. Each page is more beautiful than the next! A variety of beauties to color with lovely backgrounds. This is a greyscale adult coloring book. It’s easy and logical once you begin. Flowers & Gems is oversized, great binding.....a must in your Art Coloring book collection! Grazie, Grazia Salvo. 🌹

I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this book since ordering it months ago. It is filled with the most beautifully drawn women I have seen and surpassed my expectations. Each picture depicts women wearing jewels. There is not a picture that I will not color. I especially love the way the artist did the eyes and hair. Extraordinary! Buy this book now! It will become your favorite coloring book...no joking.I cannot wait to purchase the artist's next book.

This is a great coloring book; the drawings, the faces/flowers/jewelry are realistic, pretty, beautiful, but different; the grayscale is just right; the paper quality/thickness is excellent. She doesn't overcrowd the drawings, not too busy, but enough to accentuate the drawings - as you color, you can see how her drawings work together; single-sided drawings w/ perforation to remove it if you want to and in a spiral booklet form, so easy to flip over to any drawing, turn the booklet to color from any side. I hope she comes out with another one similar to this one; I like her style of drawing as stated above.

Gorgeous pictures on high quality paper!! Plus a sheet of cardboard is included to put beneath your project to protect the next page just in case. I used the arteza watercolor brushes with PLENTY of water on this piece and it held up well with minimal warping!

I read this book several times to my class of 5th graders every year- because I feel like it really speaks a lot about life. I work in a Title I school, where we are really focusing on getting all of our students to succeed- via whatever path they choose after high school. Many of our children had never been out of the county before this year, when we took them on a field trip across the state to a zoo. I feel like this book not only encourages them, but also kind of gives them a heads up of the reality of "later life". Sometimes you aren't on top of the world, and you do get lost, and you do have to keep going to try to get out of your rut. And you don't want to be caught with the people who are just "waiting around"...we want them to be proactive and do something about it. I save up all year and purchase each of my students a copy and write a note to them individually, so that they know that they have someone who is in their corner, really pushing for them. That being said, I also read this to my own small children- because they just really enjoy the story, and all of the pictures.

Classic Dr. Seuss story. What more needs to be said?We purchased one copy for each of our kids. We have their coaches, teachers, etc. sign the book after each season with a little message. We plan to give them the books when they graduate from high school. What's really neat is they are 6 and 11 and have no clue we have been doing this. Hopefully we can keep that up and it makes a nice surprise and keepsake for them.

I gave this book to my stepchildren when they graduated from college. I read it myself in my 30s because I was a freelance writer, and this simple book helped me gather the courage to open myself to all the possibilities. I had a very successful career as a freelance writer of only non-fiction. In my retirement, I need to read this again as I'm now writing and indie publishing serious mid-grade/young adult fiction as Pleasant Oliver and once again, I need its boost of enthusiasm and courage for all the wonderful possibilities and opportunities that are going to come my way! In Spring 2018, I will give it my great nephew as he graduates from high school, and in later years, I will give it my other great nieces and nephews when they graduate from high school--maybe again when they graduate from college!

I bought two copies of this book for my children. Once they complete a grade in school, I will have their teachers sign it, and I will give them the book with notes from all their teachers on the day they graduate. Granted, I stole this idea from facebook, but it's so cute and Doctor Suess is such a great author.I have read it to them once and will read it to them every year before school starts. It's an adorable and inspirational book to remind them to keep pushing forward. Dr. Suess was the first author I ever read (The Foot Book, to be exact) and I while I have seen this one all over the internet, I had never read it before I bought it for my kids.The product itself came to me in two days, I have Prime, and there were a few nicks on the corners of the book. But I wouldn't say they're overly damaged or whatnot. Just don't expect the product to come in perfect condition. If you're going to steal my idea, the one I stole that is, I recommend storing the books in air tight bags in between readings and having them signed.

I paid nearly $20 for the hardcover book and then paid to import it to Ecuador. Wow am I upset that the publisher printed the words and pages the opposite direction of the cover. For $20 in the kindle age there really is no excuse for a publisher that sells thousands and thousands of copies to product work like this. I have read others complaining about the same issue. You need to check your quality control and be prepared to give a full refund when this happens. Then again, how hard is it to open a book and check it before you sell it???? Really really really annoying and is VERY upsetting since the taxes and shipping to import were more than the messed up book!!!!! GGGRRRrrrrrrrr Dr. Suess.

We got 2 of these for our son and daughter's teachers to sign as they grow up (to give them when they graduate). We're also writing letters to put within the pages over the years. The books are of great quality and should stand the test of time. I've also seen them used as 'advice books' where guests at graduation parties write little bits of advice for the graduates.

What is there to say about this book that hasn't already been said?! It makes a great Graduation gift (I bought 8 of them on Amazon for HALF of the list price!) and is a timeless classic.This is the exact same quality, hardcover book (with dustcover!) but at half the price. Thanks, Amazon!

As described, wonderful book. I got a copy for high school graduation and have decided to get my toddler a copy and have his teachers and therapist's write little notes overy the years and give to him at his graduation. He has severe autism and I want him to be able to look back at all of the people he may not remember, but they helped get him where he's going.

Over the years, I have gone back and forth with each new book or article partially convincing me of their position (Wright, DeYoung/Gilbert, etc.). This book's strength is the same as with most Counterpoint books, that is, you can read pushback from other leaders immediately. There were many times where I was suspicious of a point. I knew something was off. However, I did not have the mind to precisely articulate what was off about it. Furthermore, I did not have a suitable alternative!The result of all this back and forth has created a clearer understanding of the church's mission.I appreciated reading Leeman's position which was different from DeYoung and Gilbert. His position was much closer to Wright, which felt like a more robust middle position (Although the best iteration of DeYoung/Gilbert would be lived out similarly).One critique is that I wish this book included a response to the response like I've seen in some other Counterpoint books. The book is relatively short, so giving each author a chance to respond to his critics would have been immensely beneficial. I found myself thinking to myself, "What would ___ say to that?"Overall, I am so grateful for this resource!***Full disclosure: I selectively spent time on Wright and Leeman, so this review does not reflect the editor, Franke, or Leithart.

I work at a very small company so many high tech solutions aren't really appropriate for us. Using some of the suggestions in the book we were able to shave a ton of bloat from our site and cut way down on CDN costs. There's nothing earth shattering suggested, most of it was stuff I knew I should be doing but never got around to, but I really appreciated the practical implementation advice. The book was really well written and organized.

Great book, easy to read. It has a lot of examples. It teaches how browsers render content, impact of performance, how to measure it, best practices for loading images, how to optimize HTML and CSS. There is a chapter about continuous testing as the site evolves, and also how to shape your organization's culture for performance. I've referred to it several times for best practices

One of the best books I've read on website performance. It's short, but it feels chock-full of useful details for speeding up your website. The author also doesn't pull any punches about how performance is a shared responsibility of everyone in your organization, and how performance considerations should be woven in to every part of the development process, including design. Yet, the speed concepts still apply to what I do -- engineer customized websites. So I found this book valuable and contemporary. The speed and decoration goals are the critical issues.Some web designers consider optimizing website performance is perhaps about coding or SEO. Nothing could be further from the truth. Well, almost. Lara covers the main points about getting better page optimization. Speed!Her first point is aesthetics cause the bulk of drag on page speed. I recommend also watching Lara's Velocity video presentation online about the goals at Etsy. Poised and intelligent -- Lara makes a seamless delivery of ideas. (And, no, she's not my boss or affiliate!) No um's, er's, ah's like other presenters. Her writing is, also, concise and well thought out.Before you buy any of Steve Sounders works like "High Performance Web Sites," "Even Faster Web Sites" and others. Or before buying "Website Optimization" by Andrew B. King, consider how many methods changed since those vintage copyright dates:Mobile bandwidth.Responsive pages.CSS3 and HTML5.Better browsers.Faster SSD servers.SVGs.Web fonts.Linux improvements.Affordable CDNs.Tiny screens.Retina resolutions.Etc.Many of today's topics are not mentioned in those older, outdated books. Lara gives a snapshot of technology today and even a little glance into future changes.The book's focus is always about finding a balance between speed and branding (or design aesthetics). Laura demonstrates it's possible to find UX sweet spots. It requires "good practices" and good judgement. "Designing for Performance" shows us how. I recommend it.I've learned about Lara online -- on her website, videos, and various blogs. I admire her overcoming adversities in her life. These just made me enjoy the book more.She didn't include sappy stories or off-topic anecdotes that detract from the technical theme. Bravo! Good example for other authors. Why does she smile so big in her photos? I think she loves what she does.

As a front-end engineer, I expected more real-life trade-off examples but I found there are just a few in the book. The book is great for web designers who never touch performance topics.

Lara nails it in this quick read! Web performance is an emerging part of development and it's needed a book like this to set a standard for best practices. I've read it twice and keep looking back to it as a reference for best practices. I've recommended it to all the FEWD students I mentor at Thinkful and I'm buying it for the entire dev team I work with at my other employer.

Are the Schechter works fiction or non-fiction?The synopsisThis 88-page novel published in 2018 focuses on a series of sexually motivated child killings that occurred in 1937. Schechter introduces a sociological term “moral panic” to describe the near hysterical reaction of the citizenry that is akin to an “end of days” scenario. It is unclear from this work when the term “moral panic” came into common use among sociologists but it is easy to see the usefulness of the label in 1937 and today. School shootings, seemingly unreasoned attacks by knife-wielding “crazies,” and cars piloted into crowds for no purpose other than to kill or wound as many as possible all provoke moral panic today. Schechter makes the case that this phenomenon occurred in 1937 and occurs today with nearly fourteen pages of references. The focus of this novel is on the 1937 events and the social rage the events provoked.Schechter does not use graphic sexual or violent language to describe either the crimes or the descriptions of bodies once they are found. The author uses almost clinical language for his descriptions. The shock some readers may feel comes from the age of the victims, usually under 12 and as young as four. I suppose this serves as some sort of trigger warning.The publicity surrounding the 1937 events demanded the motivation for the killings. The immediate motivation was for the sexual gratification of the perpetrators; that part is clear. But what caused these individuals to develop into the persons they became? The proposed reasons for deviant behavior sound familiar. Young people no longer valued or followed religious teachings. Prohibition had been repealed so alcohol could again be blamed. Burlesque fueled sexual fantasies. And my all-time favorite, weird music. Nineteen thirty-seven may not have had Heavy Metal but they had Jazz. Good enough, let’s blame that. Schechter presents reactions of very prominent Jazz pioneers in the defense of music.The AuthorHarold Schechter specializes in writing about serial killers. I counted approximately twenty-two Kindle publications. These are the only publications I read because of the high cost of print media where I live. Schechter also has many paperback publications, some of which he has co-authored. His Amazon author site has five pages with 12 publications per page; he has been around for a while. He is a professor of American literature and popular culture at Queens College of the City University of New York.My OpinionI like crime novels whether fiction or non-fiction. My expectations for each are different. If non-fiction, I want to see references. For fiction, I want twists and surprises. Sometimes I get both such as with a recently reviewed Rogue Divorce Lawyer, an excellent reading experience with a mixture of solid references and creative writing that covered possible motivation. I like Schechter’s writing style; he projects credibility. Which leads me to a rant about what I do not like.The absolute worst in non-fiction crime writing is that produced by a “writer” who cobbles together publicly available headlines and newspaper reports and struggles to write transition sentences containing psychobabble clichés. It is amazing to me that such writers make a living from their “craft” but their names appear often enough to assure me they do so. Usually, I am able to identify such plagiaristic rip-offs and abandon the novel after a few pages. Every once in a while I write a one-star review out of rage but I think I am getting over that.Harold Schechter is a good writer who presents reasoned and logical arguments. Some may find his style dry and almost academic. I like the style and gave this novel four Amazon stars, not five because I would have liked a longer, more detailed examination of issues introduced. I will next read Hell’s Princess, a 336-page novel, to see how Schechter treats a case in greater depth.

As filler, one member is assigned to speak about the Bender murders near Independence, KS in 1871. My first “Bloodlands” review was of Schecter’s story about the Benders. The title was “Little Slaughterhouse on the Prairie.”But, on with my review of “Panic.”Imagine a time when a father is worried for the safety of his two little girls, due to news reports circulating about young, innocent girls, getting kidnapped, raped and murdered. So frightened that they MIGHT suffer so fearsome a fate, that he treats them to a dessert of ice cream, then, to prevent THEIR possible kidnap, rape and murder that HE, the father, kills them and commits suicide.That is not the main subject of “Panic.” It is merely the opening, and leads us into a series of tragic murders and the resulting investigations and convictions.THE WRITING: Smooth and engaging.POV: Third person.BLUSH FACTOR: The language is free of profanities, but the topic might dissuade a few from sharing with their prayer group, or young children. Otherwise, no worries.ADVENTURE: Going back to the 1930s might be consider an adventure in time.SOUL: Perhaps anti-soul would better describe the murders that wreak this sort of havoc upon children.EXCERPTSorry, for this short work of just 88 pages, I am not posting any excerpts. In this short work, Schechter focuses on a single sex-crime panic in the USA, in 1937. He does a good job sketching out the cases that dominated the headlines in that dim, dead year, but I wish he had told us more about some of the other cases he mentioned in passing. He helped me understand the overall level of outrage already simmering in the country the day of the Everett-Stephens murder and the underpinnings of a number of other crimes I've read about from this era. As always be leaves me wanting to know so much more. Don't miss this one.

To hear my parents the world has gotten worse...but after these stories I realized the world has not got worse. We just now have better technology to report all the crimes. These crimes made me sick to my stomach. Harold has a way of telling these stories that just pull you in and make you go omgosh....

I choose this book as an excellent read because of the author's knowledge of crime and his style of writing.!!!!!!!! I would recommend this book to anyone!!!!!!!!!!

Wow this book is pretty shocking. But a page turner. Not for people who can't handle harm to children. K
